Describe: To safely travel through time and space back to your home-world of PurPeL.In order to travel the immense distances necessary to make it back to your
native planet, you must collect THC crystals trapped within asteroids. Your
base is located within close proximity to numerous asteroid fields (large
clusters of brown dots on your radar screen). You must fly your ship (small,
white dot in the center of your radar screen) into these asteroid fields and
blast them in order to release the hidden crystals (green dots on your radar
screen). There is a higher concentration of THC at the center of an asteroid
field than there is on the perimeter. When you release a crystal, maneuver
your ship over the crystal to pick it up. Keep your eyes on the THC meter on
your dashboard to be aware of how many crystals you've collected. You're
limited in the amount of THC you can carry with you. You want to try to only
release and collect as many crystals as you can carry (more on that later).
Once you've reached your ship's full THC capacity, you must then travel back
to your base (large, blue dot on your radar screen) and dock. Docking
converts your collected THC into credits (1 THC crystal = 100 credits) which
you can then use to...
* Repair your damaged ship.
* Add shields to protect your ship.
* Buy booster-fuel to increase your speed.
* Buy rockets and/or smart-bombs to maximize damage on your Orringian
enemies.
However, you also want to be sure to save some of your credits. It will cost
you 300 multiplied by your current level in credits in order to make the
jump to light-speed to travel to the next round. The number that follows the
slash on your credits indicator on your dashboard will let you know how many
credits you will need to make the jump for the level you're currently
playing. When you've saved up enough credits to make the jump, fly into the
center of the spinning, purple jump-gate (purple dot on your radar screen)
and if you have the necessary credit total for your level, you will
successfully travel at light-speed to the next round.
If you wander too far away from your base in search of THC and can no longer
see it on your radar screen, use the co-ordinates located directly above the
radar screen to find your way back. Your base's position is located at (0.0,
0.0).
ENEMIES:
You'll soon notice you're not alone in the asteroid fields. Your enemy race,
the Orringians (small, red dots on your radar screen), are in the asteroid
fields with you. They have two goals to accomplish:
* Steal your THC crystals.
* Destroy you.
You'll soon notice whenever you release a THC crystal from an asteroid, a
small, Orringian cheeba-hawk will cruise in and attempt to pick up your
crystal before you do. It's in your best interests to prevent these ships
from grabbing your THC and escaping with it. If an Orringian successfully
grabs your THC (blinking, green dot on your radar screen) and escapes with
it, the stolen crystal will be used as a piece in a new SATAN Bomb, which is
being constructed at an undisclosed area in space. If you lose enough THC
crystals to Orringian cheeba-hawks, the SATAN Bomb will eventually be
completed (large, orange dot on your radar screen) and it will chase you
down and attack you until you are destroyed. SATAN Bombs can be destroyed,
but it will require excellent flying skills and a lot of rockets and smart
bombs to successfully do so; all of which will cost you a lot of credits.
Cheeba-hawks are the only type of enemy that will steal your THC, but the
aren't the only Orringians in the fields with you. There are also...
* Tiny cruisers that fire single shots.
* Larger fighters which fire dual shots.
* Mammoth destroyers which release a non-stop barrage of shots and require
numerous rockets to be destroyed.
* Skinny rocket-launchers which fire guided missiles that will chase you
down.
These ships are not after your THC like the cheeba-hawks are, they're after
you. As you travel from level to level, the numbers of Orringians will
increase, making your objective of collecting THC a more dangerous one. You
can use smart-bombs to enact maximum damage to all object on the screen at
the time of detonation, but be aware that doing so in a full asteroid field
could possibly release more THC than you can carry and/or pick up before
cheeba-hawks sweep in and grab your stash.
Minimum requirements: Mac OS 8.1 or later required, optimized for Mac OS 9.2 or better.
